FAQ 11
What happens after treatment?
What happens after treatment is almost
entirely dependent upon what the individual wants. For
some, the treatment process is just another way of appeasing
family members, even though they have no desire or intention
to stay sober. While all involved hope this is not the
case, providing any additional help for the person who
does not want recovery is usually hopeless.
People who have a desire to continue
down the path of recovery write and try to adhere to
an action plan and set of principles that were learned
during treatment. The ex-user will by no means become
the perfect person, however the improvements may be
substantial. Most importantly, if a person continues
to stay abstinent after treatment, his/her chances of
being successful in life are very positive.
The aftercare plan is created essentially
to keep some sort of structure in a person's life. In
this way, the individual is able to look back at the
tools treatment has provided and use them when necessary.
In addition, facilities such as National Rehabs provide
resources such as sober coaching, outpatient treatment
and sober living facilities that are all smart investments
in recovery if a person is unsure how they will do in
the 'real world'.
