FAQ 2
What are the signs that a person
needs to go to treatment?
A person who is need of treatment
will exhibit a number of abnormal signs and symptoms
related to the drugs and alcohol that are being used.
Even though each person is unique and each drug has
different effects, being aware of certain signs is key
to helping yourself or someone you love get help.
People who have problems with substance
abuse usually show physical signs that they are deteriorating
because of drugs or alcohol. In some cases the person
will smell (alcohol), or have slurred speech or dizziness.
A user may become more and more forgetful and make excuses
for why he/she is not in attendance at important events
or appointments. Symptoms such as nausea, hot and cold
flashes, short-term memory problems and goofiness, are
common among many drugs.
In later stages of addiction a person
may stop taking care of their physical being (activities
including showering and changing dress) and may become
upset if someone questions their behavior. If you live
with someone with a problem you might begin finding
paraphernalia or hidden substances around the house.
When confronted substance abusers will deny that it
belongs to them or lie to cover up their actions. Some
addicts will have emotional breakdowns during which
they say they want help, however when withdrawal symptoms
start up they will deny that help is needed. If these
symptoms sound familiar it is quite possible that someone
needs rehabilitation. National Rehabs can also help
during the process when a person is trying to decide
whether or not treatment is really necessary. Our consultants
are trained to deal with questions surrounding the nature
of substance abuse and its treatment.
